This 2D animation projection mapping project depicts my abstract impression of the cycle from a star's birth to the death. It aims to create an experience through stunning visuals to illuminate the wondrous story of cosmic life and death.
Progress Breakdown
For the 1st scene, I started with creating assets for the building shaped around the windows of the actual building to create the 3D illusion. I then proceeded to animating frame by frame of the wave from the bottom flowing upwards until it reaches the moon.
For the 2nd scene, I created these waves with the help of Adobe After Effects wave warp.
On the 3rd scene, I used the same method as scene 1. I hand animated frame by frame until the wave reached the top from the bottom. Using this method, I can also easily reverse the frames to retract the wave back to the bottom.
Animatic
After the 3rd scene, I view as a good idea to search for good audio choice so I can hasten my progress as an audio can help me visualize how fast each scene goes and how many frames are needed to be animated.
Same on the 4th scene, I hand drawn frame by frame of the waves entering from the windows of the building and swirling left and right.
On the 5th scene, the ball slowly turning into a star is hand drawn frame by frame but the outer gas is done half by using frame by frame and half through smart placement of masking throughout to create and illusion of it being pulled inwards by the star.
For the 6th & 7th scene, I created assets and effects from Adobe Photoshop and imported them to Adobe After Effects as animating the rotation is much easier in After Effects.
For the final scene, it was created under the idea that instead of a normal star explosion effect, I would mash a bunch of different art style's explosion and chain them alternatingly to create the explosion effect for more impact.
